Bishop’s Move is set to help Sussex Downs College AS students take part in Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010, 15-19 November. Members of the Crawley office at the UK’s largest family-owned removals company will participate in a special AS Business Studies lesson at the Lewes-based College, on Wednesday 17 November. Bishop’s Move is also the joint main sponsor of the event along with Brighton-based creative consultancy Ape Creative and specialist SEO company Sitevisibility.
Other local businesses that are participating in the event and mentoring students include Lewes Pound, Wave Leisure, Mayo Wynne Baxter, Excell Group, Mums Inc., Robert Griffin Photography and Osprey PR.
The Sussex Downs students will be working in groups to come up with a business plan for a Christmas market stall, which they’ll be able to put into practice on 9 December at the College’s real Christmas market. Representatives from Bishops Move will participate in the lesson and offer advice and guidance to the students as they prepare their business plans.
Students will also be taking part in a national competition and their own Christmas fair. The financial support offered by the sponsors means that Sussex Downs College can loan the groups money to get their businesses over the ground.
Global Entrepreneurship Week is designed to inspire people to pursue their ideas, create jobs and build global ambition amongst students and business owners alike. Last year’s event saw over 32,000 events held across 88 countries, attended by more than 7.5 million people. In the UK, over 529,000 people attended 4,812 events. Activities range from enterprise competitions to talks from local role models to large scale conferences.
Caroline Austen, who coordinates A-level Business at the Lewes Site of Sussex Downs College comments: “Inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs is critical and initiatives like Global Entrepreneurship Week play an important role. Our event unites local businesses and students in a real-life entrepreneurial challenge and provides an extremely valuable learning experience. I’d like to extend my thanks to the local businesses who are donating their time and expertise to enrich our students’ studies.”
Chris Marshall, Bishops Move Marketing Director comments: “We are happy to help Sussex Downs students during Global Entrepreneurship Week. Initiatives like this introduce students to the excitement and inspiration of a new commercial venture, and we firmly believe in the values and skills it promotes. After all, we were founded by J.J Bishop over 150 years ago and his entrepreneurial spirit lives on in the business to this day.”
